Program Information

Act Out Theatre is currently in production of No Longer Warriors, a tense drama based during the timeframe of the Battle of Gettysburg during the U.S. Civil War. The play was written by Salem County native David Dorrell and is based on the novel of the same name by Charles H. Harrison.

Last fall, Act Out produced the original docudrama, A Man of Firsts, written by award-winning playwright, Joseph Robinette. AMOF was based on the life of Salem County native son, John Stewart Rock. John Rock was the first African American to be empowered to plead before the U.S. Supreme Court and held advanced degrees in law, medicine and dentistry. In November of 2005, Act Out produced I Do! I Do!, a musical about the ups and downs in marriage.

In the Spring of 2005, Act Out produced This Moment.   This Moment included a variety of contemporary Broadway show tunes, classic Broadway music, movie and children song titles, and a short musical interlude that took us back in time to the 1950s including Elvis and Buddy Holly.  This cabaret, filled with music for both adults and kids alike, took audiences on a fantastic journey of dreams, imagination and nostalgia, while promoting a world that’s positive and enjoyable to live in.

In November of 2004, Act Out produced Mitch Albom's Tuesdays With Morrie, by Jeffrey Hatcher and Mitch Albom.  In November of 2003, AOT produced a two-character holiday musical entitled The Gift of the Magi, based on O'Henry's classic short-story.  In September of 2002 AOT produced Neil Simon's, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, at Salem Community College's Sol & Jean Davidow Auditorium. As Joe Robinette, acclaimed playwright and professor at Rowan University's Department of Theatre and Dance stated, "Act Out Theatre is a new professional troupe that lights up the South Jersey entertainment scene." Audience members were very enthusiastic and laughed heartily at this well-crafted show.

Act Out Theatre's education programs began in the summer of 2002 with the offering of four, one-week acting sessions, during Salem Community College's Youth Summer Camp, taught by our very own Artistic Director. It was a huge success as we had over forty students in attendance over the four week period. A parent of one of the students wrote, "Thank you for making the Act Out class a positive experience for my daughter. She enjoyed having you as a teacher. Enjoy your summer!" In July of 2003, 2004, and 2005, Act Out continued its summer acting sessions with the offering of three, one-week courses that was attended by over twenty students! Act Out also hopes to eventually provide less fortunate youth the opportunity to attend the summer camp for free via a special scholarship program.
